Coastal Home On The Web: Banner and Button Design

Remember I said that things were changing at The reNOUNed Nest?  It's been four years since I started this little venture and man!  Have I learned a lot!  Blogger is a great place to start but when you long for more control over your blog, you quickly realize, it can sometimes feel like you have training wheels on when you are a proficient cyclist.  That said, the name didn't really fit anymore either.  After a brief stint with Lowe's, some personal turmoil, my father's passing, our near sale of our home, and getting our hopes up on getting a house that we didn't get...I was either going to cut all of my hair off and start over or change my business name!  Since I look terrible in short hair, I opted for the blog and business name change!  It's safer and doesn't take three years to grow back, if I hate it!

I've bought books, stumbled through various issues, consulted friends and even freaked out momentarily, but I think I am actually figuring out this "transfer your Blogger blog to WordPress" thing!  While I am not quite ready to officially announce my new home on the web, I will tell you, I have called my friends at Legal Zoom, and changed my business name to {insert horns and drum roll here}

Coastal Chic Redesign

I think it's a better fit for my reused and and not as confusing to spell!  Coastal Chic is more like my chill design style and Redesign is what I do!  I've never been the high end, designer who walks into a space and says, "It'll all have to go!"  I would much rather redesign, starting with what you have, using what you love, creating something new and unique and then adding to it with new pieces to freshen it up! I sincerely hope you love it, or grow to love it!  I was up until 1:00 a.m. creating a blog banner and button!  The name is here to stay!!!

Here's a peek at my banner and button IN PROGRESS (Graphic Artist friends, don't send me hate mail! I'm playing around and learning a lot.  Boy, do I ever have respect for you all and what you do!  Geese, this ain't easy!)

{reNOUNed Nest/Coastal Chic}

First I drew it.  I'm much more comfortable with a pencil than I am a mouse, believe it or not!  I wish I knew how to get the center part of this design (the compass, shell and words) into the computer.  See my "WordPress Web Design for Dummies" book?  I think I slept with it for part of the night, last night!  {sigh}

Then I went to PicMonkey to see what I could do.  Still need to change the color of the Coastal Chic and add my photo montage, like the one I made for reNOUNed Nest.  Libby begged me to keep a bird in there somewhere.  It's been my "Mama Bird" for 4 years but since I'm moving it for her, it's now my lucky Sandpiper (if you know our family, you get the reference).  You'll probably see my little Sandpiper on blog posts and links in the future.

Then I cropped and changed it for a blog button.  Sandpiper's aren't really blue, but for now, this one is!
I'm really into compasses these days.  How perfect for those who have lost their way (design, life, etc)!  They hold so much hope for the future.

Stick with me y'all!  Great things are on the horizon!

xoxoxo,

Cindy
